Kay claims that there are "a lot of clubs" after the Frenchman at the moment, and he knows that the Lilywhites are "looking at him."

He does not mention how much the former Juventus ace could cost Spurs but reports earlier this week revealed that while Bayern would be willing to let him leave on loan this season, they also value him at between €30m and €40m, which converts to between £26m and £34m.

It could prove to be a complicated deal to get over the line if the interest from other sides is particularly strong, but if Levy and Co can sign Coman this summer, they must, as he'd bring so much quality to the frontline and could be the perfect Kulusevski upgrade.

How Coman compares to Kulusevski

Now, were Spurs to get this deal over the line and bring Coman to North London in the coming weeks, his positional versatility would mean he could play and provide cover on either the left or right of a front three.

However, given Son Heung-min's incredible performance last season, in which he racked up 27 goals and assists in just 36 appearances, it seems far more likely that the Frenchman would be used off the right.

This would then put him in direct competition with Kulusevki for a place on the team. So, how do they compare?

Well, from an output perspective, it's the Bayern ace who comes out ahead, and when we look at their last two seasons combined, it's not even close.

For example, last season, he produced eight goals and assists in 27 appearances, while the campaign before, he racked up 16 goals and assists in 35 appearances. This means he averaged a goal involvement every 3.37 games last season and one every 2.18 games the year prior.

In contrast, the Lilywhites ace ended last season with 11 goals and assists in 39 appearances, while he ended 2022/23 with ten goals and assists in 37 matches. This means he averaged a goal involvement every 3.54 games last season and one every 3.70 games in 22/23.

Unfortunately for the Swedish international, the comparison doesn't get any better for him when we take a look at their underlying numbers from last season.

As long as United remain without a midfield reinforcement, however, he'll remain one to watch.

"Spectacular" De Jong would become highest earner

The deal may seem a complicated one, but signing De Jong would be well worth Manchester United's time. The Dutchman would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Casemiro and represents a better option than PSG's Ugarte for a similar transfer fee.

Of course, wages may prove to be the biggest stumbling block, but the Red Devils proved that they're willing to pay such a figure in the past when welcoming the aforementioned Casemiro.

Why Rios would be a good signing

Since making the move to Palmeiras in March 2023, the midfielder has played an important role for the Brazilian outfit. He has featured 85 times for the club so far, winning two trophies along the way. Despite playing as a defensive midfielder at times, has grabbed five goals and two assists.

The Columbian could prove to be an ideal alternative to signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City. As reported by The Athletic on the 2nd of August, the Toffees are thought to be chasing the former Leeds United man and could look to strike a deal this summer as the Cityzens look to cut ties.

However, Rios could prove to be a cheaper alternative both in terms of a transfer fee, and wages. According to Capology, Phillips currently earns £150k per week at the Etihad Stadium, and given the fact he struggled at West Ham on loan last season, it could be a risk for Everton.

Even if they themselves only sign the England international on a temporary deal, they would likely still need to pay much of his wages, and Rios could prove to be a far cheaper alternative in the long run.

In terms of his profile, Rios is a "freak" defensive midfielder, as football analyst Ben Mattinson described him. He is a tall destroyer at the base of midfield, who possesses great technical ability on the ball.

When comparing his stats to Phillips on FBref, his numbers stack up well against the Englishman, whose stats from his final season at Leeds have been used from the 2021/22 season.

In terms of their in-possession statistics, Rios excels in ball-carrying numbers, averaging 1.48 progressive carries per 90 minutes and 0.82 successful take-ons, compared to Phillips’ 0.34 progressive carries and 0.4 successful take-ons.

However, the Englishman does slightly edge it when looking at progressive passes, with 5.25 compared to 4.75 for Rios. Phillips also averages more passes into the final third, 4.46 as opposed to the Columbian’s 3.44.

With that being said, the Palmerias man does play more key passes on average, with 0.82 compared to 0.51 for Phillips. However, this is perhaps unsurprising given Rios has played in more advanced positions last season than Phillips did for Leeds in 2021/22.

Defensively, the pair are very close once again. Phillips edges the Columbian out when it comes to combined tackles and interceptions, with 4.41 compared to 3.93. On the other hand, given his large frame, Rios beats Phillips when it comes to aerial duels. Last season, he won 0.98 with a 54.5% win rate, compared to 0.96 and a 37% win rate for Phillips.

Should Everton continue with their pursuit of a defensive midfielder this summer, Rios could prove to be an excellent alternative to the Manchester City number four. Not only would they save money on wages, but the quality of players would not change much, and Rios would add more going forward. He also has age on his side, given he is just 24, and Phillips 28 years of age.

For just £12m, it could be a deal Everton do not want to miss out on, and one they might look to get done quickly to beat off competition from other Premier League clubs interested in adding the Columbian to their squad this summer.

He said that his record in West Indies’ home summer and in the CPL for Guyana Amazon Warriors indicated that his poor run in the IPL was simply a blip, and that he had faced so few balls in the tournament that his record could not be called “form”.”I’m not concerned at all,” he said. “My cricket is based on confidence and my intent. I left the first half of the season scoring what, 20 runs in five, six, seven games [28 runs in six innings]. I came and did decent in the last three series for West Indies and in CPL. It’s about my process, continuing to believe in my process, having faith in my process, and my confidence is very high. I have no doubts in my mind that I can execute my gameplan and do good for the team.”It’s just games. A lot of sportsmen and a lot of cricketers have bad times but that’s fine. We won two World Cups with the same problem, to be honest: not getting singles, but yet still we won two World Cups. I don’t think the emphasis is on getting singles. It’s more about intent – intent and playing smart cricket, that’s it.”There are times that we know we’ll have to put egos aside and grind deep for the team. If that’s batting a dot ball or trying to get a single, we’ll do that. We have net sessions and match scenarios when we try to play to our strengths but also play to the conditions, which is finding how to get a single or working out how to get a single. We are working.
