South Africa Women have declined the ECB’s invitation for a tour of the UK in September 2020. CSA made the decision due to the travel restrictions currently in place for South African national teams in the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.”It is frustrating that another opportunity for our Momentum Proteas to play against top quality opposition has again had to be cancelled but as always the safety of our players and support staff is the prime consideration, ” CSA director of cricket, Graeme Smith, said.England had been hoping to host five women’s ODIs and two T20Is in September, after plans for a tri-series also featuring India fell through. England’s women returned to training last month and have been playing intra-squad matches in a bio-secure bubble in Derby. The news is a blow to the ECB’s hopes of staging women’s international cricket this summer. Managing director of women’s cricket, Clare Connor, said she was “immensely disappointed” with the news but has not given up hope of staging some fixtures, with West Indies Women reportedly potential tourists.”We have been committed from the outset to deliver the same bio-secure standards for both men’s and women’s international cricket, an investment that included exclusive hotel use for teams, chartered flights and medical provisions,” Connor said. “An ECB team, with support from the Incora County Ground, Derby, has created a dedicated behind closed doors environment to host all of our women’s internationals.”Women’s and girls’ cricket is a huge part of the ECB strategy and despite the devastating impact of COVID-19, this ambition has not waned. We continue to explore all options to see England Women play competitively this summer.”South Africa’s borders are currently closed for international travel, although repatriation flights are allowed to land and business travel is permitted if government approved.A 24-woman squad had been preparing for the tour, and was expected to convene at South Africa’s high performance centre in Pretoria on Sunday. However, they will now continue with one-to-one training programmes with their provinces.Speaking before the news of the cancellation, Smith said: “We’ve been engaging with the ECB for a period of time now for this women’s tour. It’s something we would love to get done. I must commend the ECB on the money they are investing in trying to get our ladies over there, looking to charter planes and then putting them into bio-bubbles. That’s are great sign for the women’s game. We want to get our women to the forefront. We are working with government to open up and see if we can get some travel going even on a private charter.”There’s a lot of new challenges that we are considering and trying to use science and debating with people going forward. Sharing is also such a key thing now and it’s been great to work with member bodies around the world – England are playing international series now – and sharing their thoughts and experiences is going to be key.”

Rodgers must instantly drop 3/10 Celtic man after Hampden struggles

da brwin: Celtic advanced through to the final of the SFA Cup on Saturday as they beat Aberdeen on penalties at Hampden Park after a 3-3 draw to take it to spot-kicks.

da esport bet: Joe Hart missed a penalty himself, striking the post with a well-taken effort, and was then the hero with his stop to win the shootout for the Hoops.

Despite their progression through to the final, Celtic had a number of poor performances from players across the park that Brendan Rodgers must keep in mind ahead of their clash with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership next weekend.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers watches on.

Central defender Liam Scales endured a rough afternoon against his former club and must now be brutally ditched from the starting XI to make way for Maik Nawrocki.

Liam Scales' 3/10 display at Hampden

The Ireland international was handed a 3/10 rating by Football Insider's Sean Fisher, who described his performance as 'nervous' and 'sluggish'.

Bojan Miovski's opener was not the former Dons loanee's fault, although you could argue that he failed to step in to cut out the through ball that caught Cameron Carter-Vickers out.

The left-footed battler was, however, less than impressive with his work for Aberdeen's second as they equalised in the 90th minute to send the game to extra time.

Celtic defender Liam Scales.

Junior Hoilett floated a ball to the back post and Scales completely lost track of Ester Solker and got caught under the flight of the ball as he missed his header and allowed the forward to nod the ball into an empty net.

Scales found himself in a similar situation for Aberdeen's equaliser in the 119th minute in extra time as once again Hoilett sent a cross to the back post and the Irishman missed the header and allowed his marker, Angus MacDonald that time, to head in.

This suggests that the 3/10 rating was not overly harsh from Football Insider, as the 25-year-old dud had a howler at Hampden with his weak defending that cost the Hoops at least two of the three goals.

Time for Maik Nawrocki

Rodgers must now unleash Nawrocki, who was signed from Legia Warsaw for a fee of £4m last summer, from the start after Scales almost let his side down in Saturday's semi-final.

The 23-year-old star did start the club's last league match, which was a 3-0 win over St Mirren, and put in a solid performance at the back for the Bhoys.

As you can see in the table above, Nawrocki was dominant in his physical battles, winning five of his seven duels, and almost perfect in possession with his impressive pass accuracy.

The Polish colossus, who has won 71% of his ground duels in the Premiership this season, heavily contributed to Celtic keeping a clean sheet in the game, whereas Scales was directly at fault for two goals against Aberdeen on Saturday.

This is why Rodgers must brutally ditch the Irish defender from the starting XI against Dundee next weekend and unleash Nawrocki, who was superb in his last start, alongside Carter-Vickers.

Pakistan domestic players set for better pay after record-breaking PCB investment

192 players will be offered new contracts which represent a stark increase in salary

Umar Farooq26-Jun-2020

PCB

Pakistan’s domestic cricketers can hope for better pay next season after the PCB announced a record investment of PKR 1.95 billion into domestic cricket. After the deep structural changes to the domestic game last season, which saw a steep fall in the earnings of most domestic cricketers a new grade-based system of monthly retainers and match fees has been introduced. There will now be five categories, starting with an A+ in which ten elite performers (out of 192 players in all) from the previous season will be placed: they will receive a monthly retainer or PKR 150,000.Thirty eight players will be in category A (PKR 85,000), 48 players will fall in category B (PKR 75,000) 72 players will make up category C (PKR 65,000) and 24 will be in category D (PKR 40,000). Which players fit into which category will likely be known by the end of next month.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Although match fees have been reduced, this change does represent an enhancement for some players. Last season, the PCB abolished department cricket and restructured the entire system, with only six provincial teams playing every format. Few players were happy with the change since it left a vast number of them on the outer, as the board decided to push for quality rather than quantity.Last season, every player was paid a flat retainer of PKR 50,000 a month, which for many was a considerable drop in earnings from previous seasons where a number of players were employed – and paid salaries – by departments. In the case of some, the change had represented a reduction of PKR 600,000 or more. The new contracts will be offered to all players next month and will come into effect from August 1.Getty Images

“The PCB had repeatedly spoken about improving domestic retainers year-on-year which we are committed to doing and have backed up this year,” Wasim Khan, PCB CEO, said in a statement. “We very much see this as the start. Overall, we have increased our investment by 46 percent in our domestic contract retainers, as compared to last year. We have also created a category-based retainer system that will better reward and incentivise the high-performing cricketers.”The PCB is optimistic this model will further enhance competitiveness amongst the players, which, in turn, will contribute in the overall uplifting of our domestic cricket. We are likely to have all the six Cricket Association sides in place by mid-August but will continue to keep an eye on the Covid-19 situation. We will only start our 2020-21 season when the Covid-19 curve of cases starts going in the downward direction and we have the necessary permissions and SOPs in place to ensure health and safety of all concerned.”Nadeem Khan, a director at the High Performance Centre, will be overseeing domestic cricket in addition to age-group programmes, which will be given a monetary boost as well thanks to the new financial model. The 2020-21 season set to start in August, assuming the threat of Covid-19 reduces by then. There have been more over 197,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections and 4000 deaths in Pakistan, with cases expected to peak towards the end of July and early August according to prime minister Imran Khan. Cricket, alongside other sports in the country, has been on hold since March 16, when most players were last active in the yet-to-be completed Pakistan Super League.

Chelsea could sign the ideal Sterling upgrade in "incredible" £43m talent

da casino: Following their brilliant 4-3 win over Manchester United on Thursday night last week, Chelsea reverted to type and took just a point away from their Premier League game against Sheffield United on Sunday.

da betano casino: Mauricio Pochettino's side have endured several embarrassing results this season, but failing to beat a team who have conceded 82 goals in 31 games is arguably their worst.

Despite struggling to craft many chances against the Blades, Pochettino refused to call on the experience of Raheem Sterling, and based on recent reports, the Englishman's time as an important player in the team could be coming to an end in the summer.

Latest Chelsea transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Chelsea are among several sides showing genuine interest in Athletic Bilbao's incredibly exciting young winger, Nico Williams, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams.

The report has revealed that the Blues are already trying to set up a deal to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge in the summer and, thanks to the €50m – £43m – release clause in his contract, it might not be a particularly expensive deal to complete, by the standards of modern football, that is.

However, while this is undeniably encouraging news for the West Londoners as a whole, it might not be so welcomed by Sterling, who could potentially lose his place in the team should the Spaniard make the move to England.

Spain'sNicoWilliamscelebrates scoring their sixth goal

How Williams compares to Sterling

So the first thing to point out is that, like Sterling, Williams is a brilliant winger who can play on both the left and right of a front three, and while he has slightly favoured the right across his whole career, he has played predominantly on the left this year, which is likely the role the pair would be fighting for.

How about their output? Who comes out on top in that regard?

Well, when it comes to their careers to date, there is no competition, with the Englishman's 299 goal involvements in 566 games dwarfing the Basque ace's 60 in 142 games. However, this season, it's an entirely different story.

In just 30 appearances this year, the "incredible" Pamplona-born gem, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has scored six goals and provided 14 assists. In contrast, the Kingston-born Chelsea man has scored just eight goals and provided eight assists in 38 games.

So, with recent output firmly going the Spaniard's way, how do the pair's underlying numbers compare? Unfortunately for the former Manchester City star, this is another area in which he loses out to his potential replacement, and by quite some way in specific metrics.

The Bilbao dynamo produces a slightly lower non-penalty expected goals and assists figure but a significantly higher actual non-penalty goals and assists figure, more progressive carries, shot-creating and goal-creating actions, completes more take-ons, more ball recoveries and takes more shots as well, all per 90.

In all, the 5 foot 11 dynamo looks significantly more impressive than the 82-capped Englishman at the moment, and Kulig's description of him as being "on another level" seems entirely accurate.

Therefore, if Todd Boehly and Co can get this deal over the line in the coming months, they absolutely should, even if it significantly reduces Sterling's role in the team.

Chelsea could land an ideal Caicedo upgrade in £86m-rated "machine"

The most expensive player in Premier League history could already be in danger of losing his place in the team.

Public health crisis needs to get 'drastically better' before England play – Moeen Ali

“Very difficult” to feel motivated behind closed doors, says allrounder

George Dobell29-Apr-2020Moeen Ali has suggested the public health situation in the UK would have to “get drastically better” before players would consider a return to cricket. While Moeen accepted that both players and the wider public want a return to action as soon as possible, he believes it “would be very difficult to get players to play [while] things are not safe”.At present, the ECB have announced there will be no professional cricket before July 1 as they attempt to deal with the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. But while they continue to look into the feasibility of hosting games in bio-secure environments, there is widespread expectation that further delays to the season look likely. Moeen, at least, does not envisage a swift return and has already called for the launch of the Hundred to be delayed a year.ALSO READ: Five key issues for the ECB in face of Covid-19 disruption”Of course we want – everyone wants us – to be playing cricket but if things are not safe it would be very difficult to get players to play,” Moeen said.”At the moment it’s too early. 500 people dying [a day] is still a big number. That would have to get drastically better for players to consider playing.”There’s still some time to go. In my mind there’s probably three or four weeks – maybe a couple of months – that it would take for us to start training.”The ECB are very open with us and we’re having a lot of dialogue. Hopefully sport will be back on soon but when the time is right, everyone is safe and the players don’t feel like they’re going out to play and they might get it. With so many people dying around the world – and in this country in particular – it’s difficult for the players to really switch on.”Moeen also expressed reservations about playing behind closed doors, but accepted it will “probably have to be the case for a while.”The final rounds of PSL group games were played without fans•AFP

“We played the last two or three games in the PSL with no-one in the crowd and it was so bad,” Moeen said. “It’s different and it’s not quite the same. It was actually very difficult to play in an empty stadium.”If was very difficult to get yourself up for the game. I don’t know what it would be like in an international game but it was so different. It felt like those warm-up games you play before a big series. It’s not ideal, but it will probably have to be the case for a while.”ALSO READ: Moeen ‘probably now ready’ to make Test returnIn the longer term, however, Moeen is now committed to try to fight for a recall to England’s Test side and says a chance to “put things right” in an away Ashes series remains a motivation. Moeen endured a tough Ashes tour in 2017-18 – he averaged 19.88 with the bat and 115 with the ball – and, having subsequently taken a break from the Test game, knows there are now several people ahead of him in selection terms.”In the back of my mind it’s still there,” he said. “I would want to go out and put things right if I was going to play Test cricket in the Ashes. I definitely learned a lot from last time going out there. The type of bowling required out there was different to how I was bowling at the time. It is in the back of my mind but it is still a long way away. And things could change drastically for that as well.”I still back myself to get back into the side and some stage. It’s obviously worked out that no games were played in Sri Lanka and I know the guys selected for that tour are ahead of me. The door is still open to perform and get back in.”
