Pundit says Leeds are "interested" in another free agent after Guilavogui

da dobrowin: One pundit has made a fresh claim about another free agent that Leeds United are interested in, according to a new report.

da marjack bet: The Whites are enduring an injury nightmare at this moment in time and that has already seen them enter the free agent market to sign Josuha Guilavogui, who penned Elland Road terms last week.

23/24 Player of the Season: Farke may have next Rodon in Leeds academy star

The Yorkshire side have seen players such as Max Wober, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Daniel James be sidelined this season, and the list is continuing to grow. Summer signing Largie Ramazani is the latest player to suffer an injury and is now expected to miss several games.

In fact, manager Daniel Farke has revealed that he expects to be without Ramazani for at least a month. The 23-year-old has been in good form in the Championship, scoring three goals in eight games, but he was forced off against Watford last week, and he could now be out until December.

Largie Ramazani

Meanwhile, there has been talk about a possible return to Elland Road for midfielder Kalvin Phillips in recent weeks. The Englishman is currently on loan at Ipswich Town for the season, and manager Kieran McKenna has hit back at those claims that they are looking to end the loan early, as “proper, proper nonsense.”

However, the transfer stories don’t stop there for Leeds, as a pundit is now making a claim that they could sign another free agent.

Pundit makes Leeds claim on another free agent after Guilavogui

Speaking to Football League World, pundit Carlton Palmer has tipped Leeds to make a move for free agent Ryan Kent. The Yorkshire side are said to have an interest in Kent, and given that he is now a free agent after his contract at Fenerbahce was terminated, they could be looking to make a move.

Kent failed to appear in any matchday squad for the Turkish side since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as manager, and it was agreed that he could end his time at the club. Palmer believes Kent being a free agent could be a good pick-up for Leeds and Farke, who are in need of players given the recent injuries they have suffered and they “are apparently interested.”

Palmer said: “It’s been reported that Leyton Orient are weighing up a shock move for Ryan Kent on a free transfer. Listen, it’s one of those. Sometimes a player goes somewhere, and things don’t work out. Kent joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe, but the 27-year-old winger, who was on a four-year contract, had his contract ripped up.

“He can now train and play for any football club in January. It just didn’t work out for him; he struggled for game time there, and it was an unhappy spell for him in Turkey, playing just once this season in a Champions League qualifying game.

“He joined on a free from Rangers in 2023 and fell out of favour quickly. Apparently, Leeds United are a club looking at Kent. I’ve always said you’ve got to be careful with free transfers and players who are out of contract; they’re out of contract for a reason. But I think with Kent, this may well be a good move for Leeds – certainly an ambitious move for Leyton Orient.

“Apparently there’s some interest from Steven Gerrard’s Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq; he’s out of contract, so that makes him very appealing, and he’s still got some time at 27. Sometimes you go to some places, and it doesn’t work out. It’s an ambitious move for Leyton Orient; apparently Leeds are interested, and I think other clubs will be looking very, very closely.”

Maresca personally eyeing "astonishingly" good Euro 2024 star for Chelsea

He’s in excellent form for his club.

ByEmilio Galantini Nov 14, 2024

The two most likely players to depart Enzo Maresca’s side, as per reports in the last few weeks, are left-back Ben Chilwell and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka – who have both been deemed surplus to requirements by the Italian.

Chilwell and Chukwuemeka have both played under an hour in total across all competitions, with Chelsea ready to cut their losses on the pair as January looms.

Chelsea are encouraging teams to move for Chilwell, who is attracting interest from the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A, while reliable journalist Simon Phillips reported this week that Ipswich Town have made an enquiry over signing Chukwuemeka in January.

“Ipswich Town are showing a keen interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka,” wrote Phillips.

“In fact, we have heard that they have already made an enquiry about the player’s availability for January. Chukwuemeka wants to play football, so he will listen to any approaches now. He had approaches in the summer but ideally wanted to stay in England, and again, ideally in London.

Carney Chukwuemeka

“AC Milan and Barcelona have also both expressed an interest in the Blues midfielder. Chelsea will sell him for the right price, and they might even consider a loan to buy deal in January that will see the player leave in the summer.

“Sources are unsure at this point the nature of the enquiry from Ipswich, whether it is a loan or a permanent approach, because it is just an initial enquiry to see if the player is available in January, which he will be. But I’d suspect it would be some sort of loan to buy deal for now. Chelsea will listen.”

Other players linked with the exit door including Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman is attracting rumoured interest from Man United, and it is believed Nkunku is tempted by the possibility of making an Old Trafford move (Football Insider).

Palace approach Chelsea over signing Mykhailo Mudryk

Despite his use in cup competitions and some impressive showings as of late, reports continue to link Mykhailo Mudryk with a January exit as well.

The Ukranian, signed for an initial £62 million, has failed to justify that price tag so far and faces stiff competition for a consistent place in Chelsea’s attacking line-up.

Football Transfers write Palace have approached Chelsea over signing Mudryk on loan in the winter, which could be a potentially “transformative deal” for Glasner’s side as they look to climb up the Premier League table.

The 23-year-old dazzled at Shakhtar Donetsk before making the switch to Stamford Bridge, and has displayed his ability on the odd occasion, but BlueCo will be very keen for him to kick on and perhaps a temporary move elsewhere could be best for him.

Under pressure Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell fell cheaply, but Australia avoided a clean sweep against England after the T20I series finale in Canberra was abandoned due to rain. After two rain delays in England’s innings reduced the match to 12 overs a side, Australia were in a major hole at 30 for 3 chasing a revised target of 130 before inclement weather ended proceedings with seven deliveries still needed for a result.England skipper Jos Buttler earlier scored his second half-century of the series in another confidence boost. An impressive England have started their T20 World Cup preparation in style after winning the opening two games, played in Perth and Canberra, in mirroring eight-run victories, while Australia have unresolved questions ahead of a title defence.Buttler fires again, Stokes’ late cameoExpected rain caused havoc in England’s innings, totalling 90 minutes, and a truncated match ensued. After being sent in for the third straight match, England were 73 for 2 in the 10th over when the second rain delay hit.On resumption, with their innings almost over, Buttler and Ben Stokes knew they had to go all-out attack. Stokes, who had endured two failures in this series since being backed to bat up the order, didn’t waste time with a pulled six off Maxwell’s first ball back in an indication of what was ahead.Player-of-the-Series Buttler then took over with an assault on quick Josh Hazlewood in the penultimate over, smashing 22 runs to punctuate his brilliant return from injury. In better signs, Stokes was more fluent with 17 off 10 balls although he had a brain fade on the final ball when he smashed Maxwell down the ground and didn’t run thinking he had hit a boundary. But Steve Smith cut it off in the deep forcing a flustered Stokes to scamper for a single amid a near run out in a farcical end to England’s innings.Steven Smith came into the XI for David Warner•AFP/Getty Images

He had two wickets before you could blink by removing Finch first ball of the innings then Mitchell Marsh next ball with a sharp delivery caught at short third off a leading edge.Woakes was denied a hat-trick but picked up Maxwell shortly after to cap his stunning opening burst of 3 for 4 off 2 overs. With competition for England’s quicks fierce, with Sam Curran having starred in the opening two games before being rested, Woakes issued a reminder that he’s arguably England’s best new ball bowler.Australia’s batting continues to misfireWith David Warner resting after a neck injury sustained while landing awkwardly in the field in game two, struggling Maxwell joined Finch at the top. Both batters failed once again with Maxwell’s rut now extending to 24 runs in his last seven T20I innings.Through his all-round talents with ball and in the field, which he showed off with a masterful sliding save in the deep late in England’s innings, Maxwell is an almost certain starter for Australia’s opening T20 World Cup clash against New Zealand but pressure is building.Smith, who earned a reprieve and replaced Warner, would have rued the inclement conditions as he tried to push his claim for a place. He was on 7 from eight balls when the match was finally abandoned.

Chris Cooke, Shubman Gill drive Glamorgan in must-win promotion push

Sussex show fight in reply but face a long haul to reach first-innings parity

ECB Reporters Network27-Sep-2022

Chris Cooke celebrates his century•Getty Images

Chris Cooke and Shubman Gill both made impressive hundreds as Glamorgan put themselves into a strong position in their must-win game against Sussex.Gill scored 119 – his first LV= County Championship hundred – and Cooke 141 as they piled up 533 for eight declared on the second day at the 1st Central County Ground.Sussex responded positively and were 86 for one when bad light forced the players off with 13 overs still to be bowled at Hove after there had been two short rain delays earlier in the day.Glamorgan need to win to have any chance of overhauling Middlesex and claiming the second promotion place from Division Two and although Sussex bowled well in the morning session when they took three wickets, their bowlers suffered thereafter with Cooke leading the charge as he made his tenth first-class century.Earlier it had been Gill who went on the offensive. He quickly added the nine runs he’d needed overnight to lodge his seventh first-class hundred before greeting Jack Carson’s arrival by hitting the off-spinner for three boundaries in his first over. But Carson had his revenge in his next over when he tossed another one up and Gill picked out long-on, having faced 139 balls and hit 16 fours and two sixes.Left-armer Sean Hunt had already broken through when he yorked Billy Root and Carson picked up a second wicket when he gave the ball air again and Andrew Salter was also caught at long-on.When Sussex took the new ball Brad Currie soon had James Harris caught behind for 34, after Harris had added 77 with Cooke. Timm van der Gugten helped the South African put on 41 for the eighth wicket before van der Gugten was held at long leg off Tom Clark.Acceleration came either side of tea as Cooke and Ajaz Patel thrashed 96 in 13 overs with Patel hitting an undefeated 51 from 37 balls including three sixes, two of them hit over long-on in an over from Carson.Cooke hardly played a false shot before edging Hunt to wicketkeeper Oli Carter after making his second Championship century of the season. His 141 came off 165 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Carter was one of two substitutes employed by Sussex after Charlie Tear and Fynn Hudson-Prentice went down with food poisoning overnight. The Glamorgan total was also swelled by 50 extras.Sussex began their reply needing 384 to avoid the follow-on and they made a positive start, Ali Orr and Tom Haines laying into some wayward new-ball bowling from Harris and Mick Hogan. They added 69 in 11.2 overs before Hogan’s nip-backer struck Orr on the back leg and he was lbw for 45. Haines and Tom Alsop saw their side through to the close but Glamorgan will still feel they can claim their first Championship win at Hove since 1975, even though the pitch shows little sign of deterioration.

£78m duo miss out through injury: Arsenal predicted lineup vs Man United

da bet7: Arsenal are back. So some would proclaim anyway. Over the last three matches, Mikel Arteta’s side have scored a combined haul of 13 goals.

da 888casino: It’s amazing what happens when Martin Odegaard is in your team, isn’t it? The skipper missed a 12-game period after the first international break of the season and during that run, the Gunners rather fell off a cliff.

A rugged period between October and November’s international break saw Arsenal fail to win a Premier League game and that means they’re now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, even if they did hold them to a 2-2 draw.

That said, Manchester United on Wednesday evening are likely to provide a far tougher test than the likes of Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

As it happens, they’re now managed by Ruben Amorim who used to coach the Sporting team that Arsenal so ruthlessly dispatched in the Champions League a week ago.

The last time Arsenal played Manchester United at the Emirates

“Gabriel Jesus, he’s sat down one, and he’s won the game!” The roar from Peter Drury was glorious if you are an Arsenal supporter.

What a game this was back in September 2023. Arteta’s side needed a big win early in the Premier League campaign and that’s precisely what they got, defeating their old rivals 3-1 at the Emirates.

gabriel-jesus-arsenal-alexandre-lacazette-transfer-arteta-edu-lyon

They were made to work incredibly hard for it, however. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring on 27 minutes before Odegaard hit back just a minute later.

We had to wait until injury time for the game to be decided though. That wasn’t before Alejandro Garnacho scored but saw his strike cruelly disallowed, a goal dear old Erik ten Hag probably still suggests was onside to this day.

Alas, the rub of the green was not with the Red Devils on that sunny afternoon. In the 96th minute, the ball fell to mega-money summer arrival Declan Rice at the back home who lashed home via a deflection for his first goal in Arsenal colours.

Off he went, darting away towards the corner flag, engulfed by his teammates. What a moment. The Emirates was bedlam.

The match was then decided in the 101st minute. The hosts broke from a corner through the lesser-spotted Fabio Vieira. He slid in Jesus who cooly sat Diogo Dalot down before sticking the ball past Andre Onana.

Arsenal will hope for a slightly less dramatic affair on Wednesday but they will take three points in any way they come as they look to chase down Liverpool.

Arsenal team and injury news

The North London side may have Odegaard back in the fold but this doesn’t look like a fully fit squad just yet.

The big news we await concerns defensive stalwart Gabriel Magalhaes. The Brazilian took a blow to the face at the London Stadium, an incident that saw him win a penalty for his side.

That being said, he was withdrawn at half-time with Arsenal citing management of the knock he picked up in Lisbon a few days prior.

Mikel Merino and Thomas Partey were both absent from the matchday squad against West Ham and could miss out again. Merino sat out last time owing to a knee injury while Partey’s issue was described as muscular, meaning the £33m and £45m signings are both doubts.

While their involvement remains more uncertain, full-backs Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu definitely remain out.

Arsenal's predicted lineup vs Manchester United

With Merino and Partey still doubts for Wednesday evening’s clash, it means a relatively unchanged team is likely to take to the field at the Emirates.

The undisputed number one, David Raya, maintains his place between the sticks and providing Gabriel is fit after Saturday evening’s substitution, will have an unchanged defence in front of him.

Jorginho shone in the win at the former Olympic Stadium and deserves to keep his place next to Declan Rice.

There might be claims for Kai Havertz to be rested but after scoring in consecutive fixtures he starts ahead of Jesus again.

The only change to the starting lineup will see Leandro Trossard drop out. Like Havertz, the Belgian has scored in successive outings but with Gabriel Martinelli waiting in the wings and ready to torment United’s defence with his pace, this feels like an ideal match for the Brazilian.

Nissanka returns, Manasinghe replaces injured Theekshana for the second Test

Manasinghe likely to make his debut in the second Test in spin-friendly Galle

Pathum Nissanka is back in the squad after recovering from Covid•Getty Images

Pathum Nissanka has recovered completely from a bout of Covid-19 and will return to the Sri Lanka Test squad, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced. Joining him will be right-arm offspinner Lakshitha Manasinghe, who will take Maheesh Theekshana’s place.Theekshana, the SLC revealed, had suffered an injury to one of his fingers on his right hand – his bowling hand – during the first Test against Pakistan, which Sri Lanka lost by four wickets. He had only made his Test debut in the second Test against Australia earlier this month, having been drafted into the Test side following a spate of Covid-related withdrawals. He kept his place in the side for the first match against Pakistan, but proved largely ineffective, picking up just two wickets – though he did impress with the bat, with his role in a stubborn ninth and tenth wicket stand in the first innings helping rescue Sri Lanka from a dire position on the first day.Related

Second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan moved to Galle

Shafique's marathon knock, Pak's record chase, and Jayasuriya's dream start

His replacement Manasinghe offers little by way of extra experience – though his 17 first-class appearances outweigh Theekshana’s five. And in those 17 games, the 22-year-old Manasinghe has largely impressed, picking up 73 wickets at an average of 26.38, including six five-wicket hauls. Most recently, he picked up 13 wickets for Sri Lanka A across two unofficial Tests against Australia A. He also offers a certain level of proficiency with the bat lower down the order, having racked up five FC fifties. With the second Test also taking place in spin-friendly Galle, Manasinghe is well set to make his debut as Sri Lanka will likely go in yet again with a spin-heavy attack.Nissanka’s return to the playing XI however is less certain, with his replacement at the top of the order, Oshada Fernando, having impressed in his absence with scores of 35 and 64. Of Sri Lanka’s frontline batters, only Niroshan Dickwella has failed to impress in recent times, though as wicketkeeper his omission would require one of Dinesh Chandimal or Kusal Mendis to take up the gloves – with both seemingly hitting form purely as batters, this might be something the Lankan think-tank is averse to. Nissanka, for his part, has had a rapid start to his Test career, notching a century and five fifties in his first 15 innings. The second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will begin on July 24.

Forget Tavernier: Rangers star has just shown he’s Ibrox’s future captain

da bet sport: Glasgow Rangers head into the international break having secured all three points at Ibrox in their Premiership clash against Hearts, but it was far from pretty.

da winzada777: Cyriel Dessers netted for the third game in a row, opening the scoring after just six minutes with a close-range finish. That was as good as it would get for Rangers, as their performance levels dropped as the game went on.

It was yet another turgid and lethargic display which has been common this term under Philippe Clement and the international break has come at the right time for him and his team.

It is evident that several players in blue need a break due to their recent exertions in Europe and domestically. James Tavernier is one name that stands out, as his performances for the Ibrox side this season have been way below the level expected.

James Tavernier's stats for Rangers this season

Last season, the defender registered a staggering 36 goal contributions – 24 goals and 12 assists – in all competitions, becoming the Gers’ leading scorer.

Over the previous few campaigns, Tavernier’s success in the final third has been exceptional.

His numbers from right-back won’t ever be replicated and, while question marks naturally appear given the lack of success the club has achieved since 2016, the Englishman has led the team to a Europa League final in that time.

Adding in the Scottish Cup and League Cup triumphs along with the unforgettable 2020/21 unbeaten league title win, Tavernier played his part.

Has this season been a year too far for the player, however? Especially as it looked like he might have been on the move during the summer.

Indeed, Steven Gerrard was reportedly keen on signing him for Al-Ettifaq in Saudi, which would have seen the former Ibrox boss reunite with Tavernier, but no move materialised.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst – another former Gers manager – also showed keen interest in securing his signature for Besiktas. Again, no concrete bid was made by the Turkish side and the captain began the season fully committed to the Light Blues.

Perhaps Clement should have made a better effort to move him on, as his form has dipped dramatically since last term.

In 19 games for the club in all competitions, Tavernier has scored just once – a penalty against Dundee – while grabbing a further three assists. Hardly the numbers the Light Blues have been used to with the captain.

The defender hasn’t been at his finest defensively either. In the top flight, he has lost possession on average 20 times per game, while being dribbled past 0.5 times per match.

Taking statistics out of the equation, Tavernier’s intensity has been lacking, showing little fight to win the ball back when he loses it. Could it be time for a change of leadership in the near future?

Clement may already have an ideal candidate right in front of him. Someone who has shown a resurgence of late under the Belgian…

Raskin's performance in numbers vs Hearts

Nico Raskin has started the previous five matches for the Gers, partnering Connor Barron in the heart of the midfield to good effect.

Against Hearts, Clement opted to use Raskin and Barron at the base of his midfield, deploying Mohamed Diomande in a more advanced role, which certainly suits his attributes.

During the match, Raskin took 87 touches, completed 85% of his passes, made six tackles and won an impressive eight of 11 ground duels, displaying his tenacity in the centre of the pitch.

He was even given a rating of 8/10 by Glasgow World for his display and with every passing match, Raskin’s confidence is building.

After suffering an injury in pre-season, it looked as though the Belgian would struggle to make inroads into the team, especially as a Barron/Diomande duo was forming in the middle of the pitch.

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin

These recent displays prove just how effective the 23-year-old can be if given a chance in the starting XI.

Could he emerge as a candidate to take over the captaincy when Tavernier does finally depart Ibrox?

Chalkboard

Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

Rangers' future captain

Michael Beale signed the midfielder in the 2023 January transfer window, even reportedly beating off Barcelona to secure his signature.

He then missed only three games for the Gers during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, which allowed him to settle in well ahead of his first full campaign at the club.

The youngster endeared himself to several of the senior professionals at the club, with Scott Arfield showering him with praise.

Not a bad endorsement for the future captaincy, yet Raskin struggled last term. An injury meant he missed 19 games. Even when he was fit, Clement tended to keep him on the bench as it appeared he wasn’t a big fan of the former Standard Liege starlet.

Former Standard Liege ace Nicolas Raskin.

Another injury suffered before the start of the season threatened to derail his spell in Glasgow before it had even begun, but he has shown incredible resilience to emerge as a vital member of the squad.

In the Premiership, Raskin has won 6.6 total duels per game – a success rate of 66% – while making 3.3 tackles and recovering the ball four times per game, showcasing his ability to win the ball back in the heart of the midfield and his strength in one on one battles.

Rangers may not be at their best, but this midfield triumvirate of Barron/Raskin/Diomande has given Clement a strong core to the starting XI, that’s for sure.

Tavernier won’t be at the Light Blues for much longer. Could Raskin be a viable contender for the captaincy role when it becomes available? Only time will tell.

The Glasgow Rangers midfielder caught the eye with an impressive performance.
