  • England striker without major silverware
  • Tied to a long-term contract in Germany
  • May spread his wings again before retiring

    WHAT HAPPENED?

The England international had hoped that a 2023 transfer to Bayern Munich would bring his barren run on the silverware front to a close, but the German giants have just ended a rare trophyless campaign. Kane is, however, tied to a long-term contract at the Allianz Arena and is captain of a Three Lions squad that is strong enough to compete for continental and global honours.

  • WHAT REDKNAPP SAID

With that in mind, former Tottenham boss Redknapp has – while speaking in association with the free to play fantasy game at that will see him compete with supporters for bragging rights at Euro 2024 this summer – told GOAL of Kane’s silverware hunt: “It would be nice obviously for him to win a trophy. I’m sure he will eventually – whether it is with Bayern Munich or England. No-one has won a trophy with England since 1966, so that’s not an easy thing to do as an England player. Club-wise, he’s an amazing player. He is the best centre-forward in the world. He can do absolutely everything. He’s got a big opportunity this summer to win a trophy with England. We have got the best squad in the tournament and I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t go all the way and win it."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Quizzed on whether the lack of major honours will be annoying Kane, Redknapp added: “No, it won’t. He won’t be thinking about it. Look at how many goals he has scored again at Munich this year – a crazy amount. He has done his job. There are players that win trophies that are bang average but happen to be in a good team. He’s a fantastic player. He will go down in history at Tottenham as the leading goalscorer of all-time. Nobody will probably beat that. He’s a special player. I don’t think it will be bothering him. I do think he’ll win trophies before he retires.”

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Kane severed ties with Spurs as they were unable to deliver on his ambition, and Redknapp said when asked if the club’s all-time leading goalscorer could retrace steps to north London at some stage: “I doubt it. I doubt he will want to go back. It’s always a difficult one, going back. Bayern Munich have had a bad year, but it’s a massive club. Vincent Kompany going in there, I’m sure he can’t wait to work with Harry Kane. He can build a team around him next year. I would be surprised if he came back to Tottenham.”

Rasmus Hojlund explains how he became a 'killer' goalscorer as Man Utd striker insists he doesn't care what his haters think

Rasmus Hojlund delivered a message for his critics as he outlined how he became a "killer" goalscorer, despite criticisms over his finishing ability.

Hojlund has changed his approach to the gameThe Dane has netted 15 times this seasonHas been targeted for missing chancesWHAT HAPPENED?

As he approaches the end of his first season in English football, Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has discussed how he has changed his approach to the game and why he can block out his critics amid what has been a turbulent season for the Red Devils.

AdvertisementWHAT HOJLUND SAID

Hojlund told France Football: "When I was little I scored a lot of goals. I always did. But it’s by working a lot that you become a killer, by repeating the drills: right foot, left foot, volleys, shoulder positioning. And then as you grow up, you also become much better off the field.

"Here in Manchester that’s what happened, my approach to the game became a lot more professional. I learned one thing you have to be very fresh on the match day. I know my level, I know that I can play very well. But if I recover badly, with the matches that we have every three days here then it can be complicated."

He added: "Manchester United is so big, the Premier League is so huge… people are obviously more focused on you than before. It was hard at the beginning. Now, I am much calmer, I no longer worry too much about what is said. I know that I am a good player and that if I get chances, I will score a lot of goals."

GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Hojlund will be looking to end his first season at United on a high, when the Red Devils take on their local rivals Manchester City in next weekend's FA Cup final.

Going into Sunday's final match of the Premier League, Hojlund has netted 15 times in 41 games, to mark a steady, if unspectacular, start to life at Old Trafford following his £72 million ($92m) move from Atalanta last summer. It is clear from these quotes, however, that Hojlund takes improving his game seriously and he can be hopeful of improving next season.

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

Manchester United have endured one of their worst-ever Premier League seasons and while a win next weekend over their biggest rivals would always be welcome, the club face a summer of transition.

New head of football operations Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces a decision over manager Erik ten Hag, while there is likely to be major surgery to the playing squad, with plenty of deadwood set to be discarded if the club are to sign the kind of young, dynamic players that they have been linked with in recent weeks.

  • Arteta shared his sympathies with under-fire Pochettino
  • Believes he has been "doing a great job"
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Gunners' triumph, fuelled by Leandro Trossard’s brilliant opening goal and doubles from both Ben White and former Chelsea striker Kai Havertz, propelled them four points clear at the summit of the Premier League table, leaving Manchester City trailing but with two games in hand. It was a tough night for Pochettino as his Chelsea side capitulated in the second half and his Arsenal counterpart, who has been a dear friend of his since their playing days at Paris Saint-Germain, had nothing but kind words for the Argentine manager.

    WHAT ARTETA SAID

When questioned about Pochettino's predicament, Arteta responded with unwavering support and said: "All the sympathy in the world. With everything that he’s been through and everything that he’s been doing. He knows that. I’ve been on the other side as well. He’s doing a great job, I think when you look at this team and analyse every second of them, they deserve to win many matches, they deserve to win against big teams.

"He’s doing a really good job so hopefully things will turn around and be as he deserves. I love winning. He would try to do the same. When you talk about sympathy and someone I love and admire, for sure, I want the best for him.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amidst Arsenal's recent setbacks, including defeat to Aston Villa and elimination from the Champions League by Bayern Munich, Arteta found solace in his team's resilient response against their city rivals.

“Just face the reality, that’s it. The margins are so small and in some things, you cannot be better than your opponent," he said.

“You might not have the luck when you need it in certain moments but you need to react and face the moment. That moment is beautiful. We’ve been working on it for nine months, so we have to face it in the right way. Value what we have, and especially believe. If you are able to believe for nine months, you are able to win it. But you have to believe it first and consistently do what you have been doing. Nothing else.”

Sargent in red-hot form for CanariesSuffering from new quad injuryRuled a doubt for massive Preston clashWHAT HAPPENED?

After opening the scoring in their 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, the U.S. international left the pitch in the 60th minute. The Canaries conceded twice after his departure, in a gutting result. On Thursday, Norwich boss David Wagner revealed that Sargent's removal was not a tactical one, rather, he picked up an unexpected injury.

"Josh [Sargent] came off after 60 minutes with some quad tightness on Tuesday. He is a doubt, as he was not able to train today," Wagner told the official Norwich website.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Losing the 24-year-old would be a major blow for the Canaries ahead of this weekend's clash, with only Wrexham's Paul Mullin scoring more goals in the top four divisions of English football since the turn of the year. His form has led to calls for him to be included in the USMNT's squad for the Copa America this summer.

Norwich head into the game occupying the fourth and final Championship promotion play-off place. They currently hold a five-point lead over Coventry in sixth, but as the Sky Blues have a game in hand, victory over eighth-positioned Preston would provide a major boost to their hopes of returning to the Premier League.

Inquest into Peter Roebuck's death to be reopened

South African prosecutors are reportedly set to reopen the inquest into the death of Peter Roebuck, the former Somerset captain turned journalist who died in 2011. Roebuck fell to his death from a hotel room in Cape Town, with local police saying he had committed suicide.Roebuck’s family have previously expressed concern that they were not invited to be present at a closed hearing in 2013. Roebuck, who was in South Africa covering Australia’s Test tour, had been confronted by police while staying at the Southern Sun Hotel over allegations of sexual assault.South Africa’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Western Province, has been reviewing the case for a number of years. In 2016, the original inquest “docket” on the incident, which was believed to have been lost, was discovered and passed on to the DPP.Now, the has reported that the case will be re-examined “in the interests of justice”, although no date has been set for the inquest.David Hood, an English barrister representing the Roebuck family, said in a statement to the newspaper: “From the outset, the family and supporters of the late Peter Roebuck have put their faith in the legal system of South Africa. It is important to all internationally recognised systems of justice that justice is not only done, but is seen to be done.”That could never have been with the death of Peter Roebuck, unless and until the circumstances of his death were examined at a legally convened hearing held in public with witnesses called and questioned under oath.”The inquest is expected to examine a number of questions around Roebuck’s death, including the nature of the injuries he sustained after falling from the sixth floor and how he was able to jump through a window while a police office was supposedly present in the room.

Trent Boult, the third New Zealander to take a hat-trick

The left-arm quick removed Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez in only his second over of the game in Abu Dhabi

“My role is to run in and pitch the ball up and swing it around and try to take wickets. We’re always aiming to get a couple at the top in that first Powerplay,” Boult said after the game. “When the hat-trick ball came around I was just trying to make him [Hafeez] play and get the ball on the wickets. It was nice for it to swing back a little bit and trap him in front, a pretty cool feeling.”
“I’ve had a pretty quiet winter, probably four months off, away from cricket. The summer pretty much starts here for me. I’ve been in the gym doing the things I need to do to make sure my body’s right. The rhythm felt good tonight.”

Boult to Fakhar Zaman, OUT, Boult angles a back-of-a-length ball into the pads of Zaman. He loses his shape, swings to the leg side, does not make contact with the bat. The ball homes in, grazes the pad, and disturbs the stumps. The plan to Fakhar was clear: cramp him for room. After Taylor seemed to publicly question the legality of his bowling action, Hafeez gets trapped for a first-ball duck. Rather subdued celebrations from Boult. Video is below.

He was down on the court for a bit before walking off the floor gingerly to go back into the locker room.

When he left the game, Broom had 22 points, 12 rebounds two assists, one steal and a block. He had been Auburn's best player all game.

Broome was able to return to the game just a few minutes later.

Aaron Boone Rips Umpire's 'Remarkable' Decision to Call Aaron Judge’s HR a Foul Ball

During the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge hit his eighth home run of the season. Until he didn't.

Despite the ball appearing to leave the yard, umpires ruled it a foul ball. Upon official review, that call was upheld although some angles of the replay certainly made it appear to be a home run.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to the media after Sunday's game––from which he was ejected––and was asked about the umpire's controversial decision to uphold the ruling of a foul ball.

"The audacity of the call standing is remarkable. It's a home run," said Boone, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone did not mince words when it came to his true feelings about the review, making clear he thinks Judge should've had his eighth home run of the year.

Judge ended the day 1-for-4 at the plate. The Yankees won 4–0 to clinch a series victory and improve to 14-8 on the season. They'll play again Monday when they start a series on the road against the Cleveland Guardians.

Half an appeal, massive wicket

Plays of the day from the third T20I between West Indies and Pakistan, featuring the oddest ways for batsmen to get out

Alagappan Muthu01-Apr-2017The set upSamuel Badree may be a legspinner, but he does not bowl full tosses. So when he lobbed one up for the easiest slog sweep for four that Ahmed Shehzad would ever play, it seemed odd. It became clear the very next ball, though, that Badree was merely lulling his opponent into a false sense of security. He sensed Shehzad coming down the track, dragged his length back, gave it a good rip so that it spun right past the outside edge and crashed into middle stump. The welcome backMarlon Samuels had not bowled in international cricket since November 2015, when he was banned for a suspect action. Cleared in February this year, he was called in to deliver the 13th over. He began with a rank full toss , the kind of hit-me delivery that gully cricketers would be embarrassed about. So naturally it produced a wicket in international cricket as Kamran Akmal, on 48, walloped it straight to deep midwicket. The batsman was hoping it would be called no-ball for height, but considering he was crouching in his stance, it was ruled legal. The non-appeal that became a wicketThe batsman was several yards short of his ground. It seemed like Sarfraz Ahmed was going to pay for his greed – looking for a quick single – but West Indies did not look even the least bit excited. Jason Holder, the man who had broken the stumps at the bowler’s end, was already making his way to the top of his mark because he thought he had not collected the ball cleanly. But he had. Clearly. Comfortably. He had got rid of the Pakistan captain without realising it. Good thing Carlos Brathwaite wasn’t as dozy and put in the polite enquiry that brought the third umpire into play. The unintended archwayTwo days ago, West Indies were terribly under par in the field. “At least it wasn’t for lack of trying,” their supporters might say. Well, that excuse went out the window in the third T20I. A gentle little clip off the pads from Babar Azam was given free passage to the boundary because Holder, running to his right from midwicket, and Evin Lewis, racing to his left from square leg, forgot to do the most important things. Call – and then field the ball.
