'Have to do a lot to stop me' – Alyssa Healy confident of India Test fitness

“I assume I’ll be out there [for the Test], they’re going to have to do a lot to stop me walking out there and catching the first delivery,” she said at the Kayo Summer of Cricket launch on Friday. “Everything’s going really, really well.”I started back in the nets the last week-and-a-half so I’m all on track to fly to India on Wednesday for a big series over there.”Healy will be confirmed as Australia’s new captain as early as this weekend after the Cricket Australia board met on Friday. The 33-year-old will step into the role full-time after long-time teammate Meg Lanning’s shock international retirement. Healy has filled in for Lanning as captain for extended spells over the last two years, including this year’s Ashes.”Obviously we leave on Wednesday so having some sort of clarity and assurance for the team before we fly out would be great,” she said. “If it was me, it’d be unbelievably exciting.  I feel like I’ve been warming the seat for 18 months for Meg to come back and obviously with Meg’s news it was a bit of a shock.”To go over to India and captain a multi-format series would be really exciting for whoever does get the job. If it’s me, then you beauty!”The match in Mumbai will be the first Test in India for the Australian women since 1984. The tour of India will also feature three ODIs and T20s, and run over the Christmas and New Year period.

Tottenham interested in signing relentless midfielder who Messi "loves"

Tottenham Hotspur are now closely monitoring a midfielder who Lionel Messi “loves”, but there could be competition for his signature from some of the Premier League’s top clubs, according to a report.

Spurs could need summer rebuild after another Premier League defeat

Ange Postecoglou managed to stave off some pressure by leading his side to a 3-1 victory over AZ Alkmaar last week, booking a place in the Europa League quarter-finals, but the manager was brought right back down to earth on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham succumbed to a 2-0 defeat away at Fulham to remain 14th in the Premier League table, having now gone three games without a win, and the poor performances across the campaign indicate a major shake-up could be needed this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is one of the latest players to be linked with a switch to north London, with Spurs set to make a £30m bid for the Algerian, while Postecoglou is also keen to convince Lille midfielder Angel Gomes to join.

ByEmilio Galantini Mar 14, 2025

Signing a new central midfielder is seemingly high up Postecoglou’s list of priorities, as a report from The Boot Room has revealed the Lilywhites are also closely monitoring Inter Miami’s Benjamin Cremaschi,

Tottenham are not the only big club interested in Cremaschi, however, with Manchester City and Newcastle United also tracking his performances, alongside Brighton & Hove Albion, and they are likely to be impressed with what they’ve seen, given that Messi is believed to be a big fan.

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi celebrates scoring their second goal with Santiago Morales and BenjaminCremaschi

Last April, MLS expert Matt Doyle said: “I didn’t necessarily see it with Cremaschi last year, he’s a nice player but it felt like I was missing something.

“Then he comes right into the team after finally getting fit, and you can see he’s making all the little connective-tissue plays around the box that make you go ‘oh yeah, this is what Tata is seeing, this is what Messi’s seeing,’ Messi apparently loves the kid.”

Cremaschi impressing in the MLS

The American has earned a call-up to his national side after first impressing former manager Gregg Berhalter, who said: “So we had Benja in camp in October prior to the World Cup, he was with the U-20 group and he immediately caught my eye for his just tenacity, and his relentlessness.”

The 20-year-old has established himself as a key player for Inter Miami, having already chalked up 75 appearances for the MLS side, during which time he has showcased his attacking threat by picking up seven goals and seven assists.

Of course, it would be a big step-up for Cremaschi to sign for one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, but an endorsement from one of the greatest players of all-time is always a good sign, so it is exciting news that Tottenham are now in the race for his signature.

Spurs are already brewing their next Kane in "perfect" Hotspur Way prospect

The last few years have seen seismic changes take place at Tottenham Hotspur.

The club have churned through managers who employ dramatically different tactics, signed a plethora of players with varying levels of success, and perhaps most notably, sold Harry Kane.

The former captain was the club’s all-time top goalscorer and, at the very least, the second-best striker in the Premier League, but after over a decade of service, he wanted to move on to pastures new.

Unsurprisingly, Ange Postecoglou and Co haven’t been able to replace the iconic goalscorer yet, but there is a player out on loan who could potentially be their next Kane.

How Spurs' players are doing on loan

So, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is out on loan this season, the deal that took him to Marseille in July included an obligation to buy at £17m, so for all intents and purposes, he is out of the picture.

Of those Spurs players in and around the first team who are still out on loan and set to return this summer, the player who’s had the most success has been Manor Solomon, who joined Leeds United in August.

Since moving to Elland Road, the 25-year-old winger has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in just 28 games, which comes out to a stellar average of a goal involvement every 1.86 games.

Bryan Gil, while not quite as prolific, is still having a decent campaign of his own away from N17, racking up a haul of four goals and three assists in 29 appearances for Girona, while Alejo Veliz and Alfie Devine have both scored four goals this season, for Espanyol and KVC Westerlo respectively.

Lastly, Ashley Phillips has become an integral player for Stoke City, starting 70% of their league games and making 25 appearances overall.

At the same time, it’s too early to make a judgement on Min-hyeok Yang’s time with Queens Park Rangers, as he’s only made four appearances thus far.

In all, the Lilywhites’ loanees are looking quite impressive this season, although there is one more player who might be the most exciting of the lot, a player who’s mirroring a part of Kane’s early career.

Loan Watch

The Spurs loanee who's emulating Kane

Before he got the chance to show his stuff on a regular basis for the first team, Kane went out on several loan moves to varying levels of success.

He played for the likes of Leicester City, Norwich City, Millwall and Leyton Orient, where he did reasonably well, scoring five goals in 902 minutes, and it’s the League One side who currently have the Spurs player who could emulate the great number nine: Jamie Donley.

Now, we appreciate the fact that a comparison such as this is quite extreme, but like the England captain, the young Englishman is starting to show his quality with the O’s.

For example, while he’s primarily played as an attacking midfielder this season, he has played as a central and second striker in the past, and more importantly than that, he has shown himself to be a real threat this year.

In 34 games for the East London outfit, totalling just 2305 minutes, the “perfect” prospect, as dubbed by Alasdair Gold, has scored six goals and provided six assists as well as forcing Stefan Ortega into an own goal in the FA Cup thanks to a brilliant shot from the halfway line.

That means the 20-year-old is currently averaging a goal involvement every 2.83 games, or every 192 minutes, which is seriously impressive for a youngster playing in the middle of the park.

Ultimately, there is an awful long way to go if Donley is to get anywhere near the level Kane did during his time with the North Londoners.

Still, if the Hotspur Way talent continues to progress the way he has this season, then there is no telling how good he may be in four or five years.

As far back as January, reports emerged that Arsenal had entered very advanced talks to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, and there is still a belief that the Spain international could make a move to north London.

Zubimendi has already agreed broad terms with Arsenal over wages and other contract details, but there is still every chance that another elite club may swoop in and hijack this move (Ben Jacobs).

Alternatives come in the form of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson, who is firmly on Arsenal’s radar, and Bayern Munich legend Joshua Kimmich – who is set to be a free agent this summer as Arteta’s side, PSG and others clamor for the German’s signature.

Another midfield option for Arsenal could be Barca star Frenkie de Jong, who has since managed to turn his form around and become an “important player” for the Catalans once again.

Arsenal make "important proposal" to Frenkie de Jong's agent

That is according to Spanish media outlet Sport, and their journalist Ferran Correas. Correas also writes that de Jong’s agent has got “important proposals” from Arsenal and other sides to potentially depart the Camp Nou this summer. However, since the Dutchman’s return to Hansi Flick’s starting eleven, Deco has also opened talks to renew his deal, which expires next year.

Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona

The report claims de Jong earns around £400,000-per-week at Barça, and his club wish to extend the former Ajax starlet’s stay to avoid losing him for free or at a lower price this year.

There are suggestions that Barça could be forced to cash in for just £34 million if they cannot reach an agreement on fresh terms for de Jong, which would be quite the temptation for Arteta given the 27-year-old’s quality in the middle of the park.

“Frenkie is an incredible player,” said ex-Man United boss Erik ten Hag. “And for every club in the whole world he will strengthen the squad because he has a unique quality.”

Zirkzee was spotted going crazy at Anthony Taylor at half-time – here's why

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee was spotted racing towards referee Anthony Taylor in fury during their Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The spoils were shared at Old Trafford as the two rivals played out a 1-1 draw, with Declan Rice’s second-half strike cancelling out Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick just before the interval.

Look away now, Roy Keane…

ByTom Cunningham Dec 4, 2024

The result was an encouraging one for the home side, who almost won it in the final moments but for an incredible stop from Gunners goalkeeper David Raya to deny Fernandes a second.

Meanwhile, the draw is another setback for Arsenal, who have now failed to win their last three games in the league, handing Liverpool a 15-point lead at the top.

Amid the latest clash at Old Trafford was a sudden flashpoint at the end of the first half, which saw Joshua Zirkzee appear intent on confronting referee Anthony Taylor.

The Red Devils had just gone 1-0 up through a Bruno Fernandes free-kick, bringing a fairly sub-par game to life with one swing of the Portuguese’s boot.

With the wind in their sails, United soon looked to break from an Arsenal corner, but the move ended with Zirkzee being left furious with the referee – with his reaction somewhat obscured on the Sky Sports coverage.

After Martin Odegaard’s corner was headed out by Victor Lindelof, the ball eventually broke to Fernandes, with Alejandro Garnacho and Zirkzee racing forward in a 2v2 attack.

But just as the Argentinian had looked to have been released down the right-hand side, with Zirkzee ahead of his man in the centre, Taylor called time on the first half.

Zirkzee could then be spotted hurtling back up the field to remonstrate with the referee, only for his captain to stop him from boiling over. But was his frustration justified?

Four added minutes were signalled just as Alejandro Garnacho was fouled by Leandro Trossard for the free-kick which gave the hosts a half-time lead.

About 45 seconds were added on top despite Fernandes’ set-piece goal coming in the 47th minute, followed by some passionate celebrations.

Therefore, there should have been more time allowed for that attack to progress – with Arsenal in danger of going two goals down in a flash.

Of course, Zirkzee would only have got himself in trouble had he reached the referee to vent his anger, so United may end up being grateful to Fernandes for preventing a more serious situation from developing.

Shubman Gill to rejoin Indian team in Ahmedabad but still doubtful for Pakistan fixture

Neser and Peirson centuries help Queensland hold out NSW

Backs-to-the-wall centuries from Michael Neser and Jimmy Peirson have helped Queensland earn a fighting draw in their Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales. After conceding a 270-run first-innings lead, the Bulls defiantly ground their way to 417 for 7 in their second dig at Cricket Central at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday.Neser and Peirson underpinned the gritty rearguard with a 200-run sixth-wicket stand before Jack Wildermuth and Gurinder Sandhu comfortably saw out the last session on day four. Wildermuth made an unbeaten 52 while Sandhu finished 32 not out.”We had to really fight hard for it,” Queensland captain Usman Khawaja said.”We were not in a place to win that game, only NSW could really win the game.”It was a really good fight today and I’m really proud of how the boys went about it.”The Blues, winless last summer and chasing their first Shield victory since February 2022, looked on track for the drought-breaker when they reduced Queensland to 91 for 5 on day three but they could only muster two wickets from the last 121 overs while the visitors added 326.Neser, a genuine allrounder these days, notched his fifth first-class ton and, remarkably, his third in his past three matches following a bumper County Championship campaign during English summer when he plundered 487 runs at 81.16 for Glamorgan. His last eight scores in first-class cricket are 90, 9, 86, 2, 123, 176*, 18 and 140.Peirson raised his seventh first-class century before falling shortly before lunch, trapped lbw when he missed a shorter length from Chris Green that skidded low.Neser’s best-ever Shield knock ended on the last ball of the second session when he smacked a full toss back to Jason Sangha who snaffled a superb diving catch with his right hand.Wildermuth, no slouch himself at No.8 with three first-class hundreds to his name, was unmoved for 172 balls.NSW’s attack was willing but depleted. Hayden Kerr (injured abductor) was unable to bowl after lunch and faces a stint on the sidelines, while Jack Edwards (heel and back soreness) could only bowl two overs in the last two sessions.”Given how well we played for almost all of this match, it’s disappointing to not collect the six points,” NSW captain Moises Henriques said.”On a pretty docile wicket at the end, I can’t fault the effort of any of our bowlers, I thought they tried their guts out.”Edwards had earlier put NSW on top with bat and ball, taking 6 for 36 to skittle the Bulls for 176 in the first innings, before making 87 to pace the home side’s 446 to earn player of the match honours.
