Bharti Fulmali, who played two T20Is in 2019, has been called up as her replacement
ESPNcricinfo staff07-Mar-2024Gujarat Giants batter Harleen Deol has been ruled out of the rest of the WPL 2024 because of the injury she picked up in the early stages of the tournament. She has been replaced in the squad by batter Bharti Fulmali.Deol injured her knee during Giants’ third group-stage match, against UP Warriorz in Bengaluru. Stationed at sweeper cover, she raced to her right to intercept a ball in the first over of Warriorz’s innings, and immediately clutched her left knee. She limped off the field and has not been seen in action since. She didn’t have a great time of it in WPL 2024 anyway. Deol batted at No. 3 in Giants’ season opener, where she fell for 8. In the second game, she was slotted in as an opener where she scored 22 off 31 balls. For the match against Warriorz, she was back at No. 3, where she managed 18 off 24.Related

Her replacement, 29-year-old Fulmali, played two T20Is for India back in 2019 and plays for Vidarbha in domestic cricket. She was also part of the Trailblazers squad in the Women’s T20 Challenge, which preceded the WPL.Deol’s absence adds to Giants’ injury woes. They lost uncapped fast bowler Kashvee Gautam even before the tournament began, while Australia’s Lauren Cheatle had to withdraw after undergoing a medical procedure. In addition, they have been without their vice-captain Sneh Rana for the last two matches. When asked about Rana’s injury status at the end of Giants’ league game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday, captain Beth Mooney said she did not have much of an idea.Giants, currently at the bottom of the table, had a torrid start to their tournament, losing the first four matches, but they turned a corner in their last game against RCB, picking a win by 19 runs in Delhi. They next play Mumbai Indians on March 9 in Delhi.
Central Sparks ended their 50-over hoodoo against the Blaze with an emphatic 78-run victory on the opening day of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy season at Edgbaston. Eve Jones’ side had never beaten Blaze in the 50-over format but took advantage of the visitors’ long absentee list due to injury and international commitments to start the season in style. After choosing to bat, Sparks made a total that was decent rather than imposing after numerous batters made a start but didn’t build on it. Only Abi Freeborn, with 53 from 87 balls, stayed long enough against a disciplined attack led by Grace Ballinger and Sophie Munro.Blaze’s reply was then hit by a superb opening spell of 7-4-5-2 from Emily Arlott as they lurched to 14 for 3 in ten overs. Nadine de Klerk, just hours after landing in the UK from South Africa, resisted with 43 off 65 but was one of three victims for spinner Hannah Baker as Blaze’s depleted team subsided.Sparks’ innings started slowly in the face of a fine new-ball burst from de Klerk who conceded just four runs in her first four overs. When Jones tried to shed the shackles, she was bowled trying to flick Ballinger to leg.Chloe Brewer greeted the left-arm spin of Kirstie Gordon with a crisp reverse sweep for four but paid a high price for trying to repeat the shot to a ball which was too far up, falling lbw. Munro maintained the pressure for Blaze with an opening spell of 7-1-18-1 which included the removal of Davina Perrin, bowled off stump.Former Warwickshire allrounder Marie Kelly drifted a beauty past Ami Campbell to have her stumped but Freeborn advanced to a composed 82-ball half-century before missing a swipe at Munro and perishing, stumped by Ella Claridge. Katie George provided some late impetus with a 30-ball 32 with five fours before she was yorked by de Klerk.Sparks started superbly with the ball as Arlott and Issy Wong both conceded just two from their first two overs. Arlott opened with 5-3-4-2 after removing Teresa Graves, caught at mid-on, and Kelly, bowled behind her legs. Wong beat Munro for pace to win an lbw decision and when Claridge missed a slog at Bethan Ellis and was bowled, Blaze were 39 for 4 in the 18th over.De Klerk and Daisy Mullan, making her debut on a five-match loan from Thunder, halted the slide and added 51 in 77 balls before the introduction of Baker ended the revival. The spinner removed both in five balls, each time defeating an attempted cut as Mullan nicked to the wicketkeeper and de Klerk was bowled middle stump.Baker added a third wicket when Michaela Kirk ladled to deep midwicket where George, having shelled two earlier chances, this time held on.
Around USD 39m was spent on overseas players at this year’s IPL auction. Which international team has produced the most and least impactful players so far?
Sruthi Ravindranath21-May-2018What’s in a ranking? The eighth-ranked T20I side leads the way in bowling this IPL season. Afghanistan have had only three players in the tournament, out of which just two have been regulars, but both their young spinners have lit up IPL 2018 with their bags of tricks. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have been the lynchpins of their respective sides this season, with a combined total of 30 wickets this season so far.Going by Smart Stats – ESPNcricinfo’s new metrics to understand T20 cricket – they have been the most frugal bowlers, with a combined Smart Economy Rate of 6.59, while bowlers from teams standing above them in the ICC rankings have conceded over 8.4. While Rashid has saved more runs than he has conceded, Mujeeb’s absence from the Kings XI Punjab side following an injury has gone as far as making their bowling unit look far less threatening.Afghanistan leads the way•ESPNcricinfo LtdEngland join the partyWhen it comes to England players in the IPL, you might be conditioned to immediately think of Ben Stokes, who took centre-stage at the auctions. However, he did not live up to the INR 12.5 crore (USD 1.95 million approx) price tag this time around, with just 196 runs and eight wickets in 13 games, after a Player of the Series-winning debut season in 2017. That’s roughly INR 6.3 lakh (or comfortably over USD 9000) for every run he has scored – runs, which largely did not add much value for Royals. While English players’ participation in the IPL rose significantly this year, and there were one-match wonders like Jason Roy, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali and Liam Plunkett, it was Jos Buttler who easily had the most fun. While Rajasthan Royals failed to capitalise on his performances, Buttler had a breakout season, scoring the most runs by an English player in an IPL edition. His sublime form also earned him a Test call-up, which prematurely cut his IPL season short. He hit form after being deployed as an opener, with his Smart Strike Rate rising to 200 from 114.72 as a middle-order batsman. He has also contributed nearly 44% of the total runs scored by England players in this IPL season (as of May 18, 2018).Lest we forget, the second-best player from England has been someone who is serving his qualification period to earn a national call-up in 2022. Jofra Archer earned his Royals cap in their sixth game of the season and bagged the Man-of-the-Match award right away. A number of middling performances followed, but he’d look to be more effective in the coming seasons. The undisputed kings of T20Do the West Indies need to prove why they are the masters of the format? Even the numbers agree this year. Their Smart Strike Rate has climbed from 148.55 in the last three years to 175.57 this season, putting them top of the tree by a distance. Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo turned back the clock in their first few games, while Sunil Narine and Andre Russell made the most of their retention by Kolkata Knight Riders. For Mumbai Indians, Evin Lewis made a couple of noteworthy performances while the retained Kieron Pollard didn’t quite live up to reputation, following a bad run of form and a spell out of the side to score in a crucial game towards the end of the league phase.West Indies on top•ESPNcricinfo LtdWilliamson fills in Warner’s boots (and de Villiers does his thing)Finding a like-for-like replacement for David Warner may have sounded like a daunting task, but Sunrisers seem to have done it with ease. These bowling giants did lack batting depth, but there was captain Kane Williamson who carried them on his shoulders to take them to the top of points table. Williamson had only played five games in the past three seasons for Sunrisers, averaging around 31 and usually playing second fiddle, but his average of 60.09 this year could possibly see him beat his ex-captain Warner as the highest run-scorer for Sunrisers in a single season. While the other popular batting choices from New Zealand – namely Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro – could not make an impact, bowlers like Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan are in the top ten on the wicket-takers’ charts this season. While we are running out of superlatives for AB de Villiers, who has been as impressive as ever, the other South Africans in the tournament like Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy have not been at their best. De Kock has struggled to find the hitting form which has made him one of the most exciting young batsmen going around.Their bowlers haven’t fared too better either. The likes of Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi have been unpredictable and have not featured regularly for Chennai Super Kings, while an injured Chris Morris returned home after a lean patch in a directionless Delhi Daredevils team. Would Kagiso Rabada have made the difference for them? Maybe we’ll know next season. How have the overseas imports fared?•ESPNcricinfo LtdAustralia’s 36-year-old lone warriorWith three trophy-winning captains, four Man-of-the-Series awardees and five orange cap winners over the seasons, Australians have been IPL’s hottest property over the years. In this season, however, there are just two names worth mentioning: the current purple cap holder Andrew Tye, and a surprise in the form of Shane Watson. With six 30-plus scores, Watson is second on the list of most runs for Chennai Super Kings this year.Clearly, Watson has been the only one contributing to the Australians’ Smart Strike Rate, which has fallen from 143.72 in the last three seasons to second worst 126.46 (just above Bangladesh) this season.Steven Smith and Warner’s absence and injuries to a number of fast bowlers can be blamed, but big buys like Glenn Maxwell, Chris Lynn and Aaron Finch haven’t quite been themselves. And the bowling? Apart from Tye, Watson and Maxwell, all the others who have bowled in five matches or more have an economy rate of over 9.7. They also have the worst Smart Economy Rate this season, finishing as the only team conceding at 9.
Five-wicket haul condemns Sussex to heavy defeat in Cardiff

Andy Gorvin claimed a maiden first-class five-for•Getty Images
Glamorgan secured a nine-wicket victory over Sussex in the Vitality County Championship with Andy Gorvin starring on his way to career-best figures of five for 40.Glamorgan were dismissed for 411 in the opening overs of day three to lead Sussex by 133 runs on first innings.A flurry of wickets at the start of the Sussex innings put them a long way behind in this contest and they never really recovered from that position as Glamorgan bowled them out for 188. Gorvin’s five wickets were supported by three for 34 from Mir Hamza and two for 21 from Mason Crane.Glamorgan needed 7.5 overs to reach their victory target to claim 23 points from this game with Sussex managing four bonus points. The morning started with Glamorgan’s innings coming to an end thanks to a direct-hit run-out from Tom Haines with no runs added to the overnight total. From there it had a very familiar feel to the second morning of this match as the new ball wrought chaos with five wickets falling for 32 runs, three of those on the same score.Hamza claimed the first three wickets with balls that moved more than enough to have the Sussex top-order searching for answers. Tom Clark and Tom Alsop were trapped lbw and the Pakistan international induced an edge to third slip from Haines. At 32 for three the Sussex team were looking to the experienced pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and John Simpson to put together a rescue effort similar to what Colin Ingram and Kiran Carlson managed on the second day for Glamorgan. That didn’t transpire, Gorvin dismissed them both in his first over, with late movement once again the issue for the Sussex batters. There was a sizeable partnership that took Sussex back into the lead, with James Coles and Fynn Hudson-Prentice putting on a stand worth 118 which was impressive in its counterattacking nature. Hudson-Prentice took just 47 balls to reach his half century and the Sussex run rate was over four for most of the day.Hudson-Prentice fell when he chipped a ball from Gorvin to mid-wicket for 70. When Gorvin trapped Danny Lamb lbw he moved on to career-best figures as Sussex were reduced to 164 for seven, just 31 runs in front of Glamorgan.Gorvin completed his maiden five wicket haul when he dismissed Jack Carson lbw for one but not long afterwards the players left the field for nearly two hours as a result of heavy rain. When play did resume there were 29 overs left in the day with Sussex 53 runs in front with two second innings wickets intact. It did not take long after the resumption for Glamorgan to wrap up the Sussex innings. Ari Karvelas was caught behind off Mason Crane and Jayden Seales launched the ball straight in the air off the next delivery and he was caught in the covers. This set Glamorgan a target of 56 to claim their first County Championship win since May 2023. Billy Root scored 36 of the runs that Glamorgan needed as they secured victory inside three days.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou’s future appears more and more likely to be away from north London, and his potential exit could have a knock-on effect when it comes to Spurs keeping a “top-class” player this summer.
Ange Postecoglou faces Tottenham sack regardless of Europa League
Last week, Postecoglou conceded that the general sentiment around his position was that he could be sacked regardless of how the Lilywhites perform in Europe.

This remains the case, especially after Spurs’ seventeenth Premier League defeat of the campaign against Wolves, with journalist John Cross of The Mirror reporting of a “growing belief” that Postecoglou may well be fired even if they win the Europa League.
Supporters will be very keen to put this season behind them following a 2024/2025 of historic lows, and there is a serious lack of confidence in Postecoglou being the right man to take them forward, regardless of the Australian’s misfortune with injuries.
In terms of Tottenham’s managerial targets to replace Postecoglou, it is believed Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi are all admired.
Spurs’ managerial situation also appears set to play a key role in keeping their best players at the club this summer, as well as attracting key transfer targets.
Defender Cristian Romero is rumoured to be pushing for an exit from Tottenham, amid interest from La Liga heavyweights Atlético and Real Madrid, while striker Richarlison is another who’s repeatedly been linked with a departure.
The Brazil international has been unable to showcase his best this campaign due to consistent injury problems, but did score against Wolves over the weekend and has impressed in flashes under Postecoglou when given the chance.
As well as Romero, it has been claimed that Richarlison is also keen on leaving Tottenham (Football Insider), and South American journalist Jorge Nicola reported earlier this month that the £60 million forward is a target for the likes of Palmeiras, Fluminense and Flamengo – even if the cost of an operation makes their moves for him unlikely.
Now, journalist Graeme Bailey has shared an interesting update on his future.
Richarlison could decide to stay at Tottenham if Postecoglou is sacked
Writing for The Boot Room, Bailey reports that Richarlison could decide to stay at Tottenham if Postecoglou is sacked, due to the prospect of a new manager potentially being keen to work with him.
However, while the 27-year-old threatens to perform a full U-turn over leaving N17, Spurs’ stance is that they’d like to find a permanent buyer amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
While Richarlison’s suffered from a lack of availability when he has played, the former Everton star’s notched an impressive 16 goals and five assists over the last two seasons under Postecoglou – so there can be no complaints about his return in the final third.
Perhaps a fresh face in the dugout can revitalise Richarlison, who’s been called a “top-class” player for Spurs in the past (Paul Robinson).
da betano casino: Newcastle United are now racing their Premier League rivals for the signature of a “powerful” striker who’s been likened to Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero, according to a report.
Newcastle eyeing striker amid Isak uncertainty
da betcris: Newcastle should be in a strong position to retain the services of Alexander Isak beyond the end of the season, with the striker contracted until the summer of 2028, but a number of top clubs have now expressed an interest in the Sweden international.
Premier League champions Liverpool are keen on the 25-year-old, alongside Arsenal, with one report even suggesting the forward has expressed a desire to move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window.
As such, it could make sense for the Magpies to bring in a new striker capable of replacing Isak on a long-term basis, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo recently emerging as an ideal target, while they are also interested in signing Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
Would cost £0: Newcastle join race for defender who's among "world's best"
The Magpies have set their sights on a centre-back, who is set to be available on a free transfer this summer.
ByDominic Lund May 7, 2025
Having proven themselves in the Premier League, Mbeumo and Delap could be exciting options for Eddie Howe’s side, but there has also been a suggestion they could be willing to take a risk on a lesser-known forward.
According to a report from Fotomac (via Sport Witness), Newcastle are now in a race to sign Besiktas striker Semih Kilicsoy, alongside Aston Villa, who submitted a €15m (£13m) offer last summer, and soon-to-be Premier League rivals Leeds United.
Semih Kilicsoy for Besiktas.
Besiktas may have turned down Villa’s approach last year, but the Turkish club could now be willing to sanction a departure this summer, although they would be looking to receive a percentage of a future sale.
It is unclear what sort of fee Besiktas would be looking to receive for Kilicsoy, but £13m was deemed too low last summer, so it may take a bigger offer to tempt them into a sale.
"Powerful" Kilicsoy likened to Aguero
Football scout Ben Mattinson is a big fan of the 19-year-old, having lauded him as a “very powerful” striker in the past, while also lauding him for his shooting ability.
The teenager has also been tipped for future success by Brad Friedel, who said: “I don’t want to put pressure on him [but] he has a structure like Sergio Aguero. I think he will be very good in the future.”
Kilicsoy’s return of three goals and four assists in the Turkish Super Lig this season isn’t exactly eye-catching, with the starlet often being limited to appearances as a substitute, but he clearly has the potential to develop into a top striker.
Liverpool are revelling in their Premier League triumph at the moment, but those behind the scenes have no doubt commenced preparations for next season’s title defence.
Frankly, the Anfield side won the title at a canter this term, going 26 matches undefeated before losing to Fulham at Craven Cottage last month with all said and done.
To be sure, Arsenal and Manchester City will be back, stronger and hungrier than ever after respective disappointments in the top flight this season.
But they are bound to reinforce their ranks and Liverpool must do the same. While the mere thought of Alexander Isak continues to tantalise fans, craving a new number nine, FSG appear to be focusing on the rear end of the pitch at the moment, with Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen right at the top of the summer shopping list.
The latest on Dean Huijsen to Liverpool
Bournemouth’s rising star is perhaps the most touted potential target of the summer, and we’re not even there yet. Data analyst Ben Mattinson has remarked that he’s “the most in-demand centre-back in the world,” after all.
The 20-year-old arrived at the Vitality Stadium on a £15m deal last summer after Juventus decided they were better off cashing in on the young prospect, who featured on loan for AS Roma last season.
As per Sofascore, he’s started 23 Premier League matches this season and has kept seven clean sheets, averaging six clearances per game and winning 61% of his aerial battles.
How foolish the Old Lady must feel, especially given rumours surfaced in March that Real Madrid have made him one of their priorities. Such claims mentioned that Juventus regretted their decision.
Liverpool are also keen, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg even revealing last week that FSG have presented an offer to the Spain international.
With an attractive £50m release clause, Arsenal and Chelsea are also working overtime to secure his services, as per Fabrizio Romano, with the race very much open at this stage.
Bournemouth's DeanHuijsencelebrates after the match
For such a young player with relatively minimal experience at the highest level, this is quite the glowing endorsement of Huijsen’s potential.
He might be the talk of the town, but Liverpool actually boast an up-and-comer with the same stock as Huijsen, and that’s despite a frustrating campaign in which he hasn’t earned the playing time he would have hoped for.
Liverpool have hit the jackpot with £4m signing
He might be a wholly different type of player, but Harvey Elliott is at the same career stage as Huijsen and will no doubt feel aggrieved that he hasn’t been given the chance to showcase his skills in a similar fashion.
Harvey Elliott celebrates for Liverpool
Of course, Bournemouth are at a different level to Liverpool, and there’s little question that Elliott would feature front and centre for Andoni Iraola’s team, having been praised as a “special” player by journalist Bence Bocsak.
He hasn’t seen all that much action this year, true, but Elliott has still popped up with some big moments, notching six goal involvements across all competitions. Liverpool might have crashed out of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, but the England U21 international scored the winning goal in the first leg, defying the odds after the Reds spent 90 minutes under the cosh.
He might not have featured with the regularity he desires this term, but Elliott has still demonstrated his elite-class qualities as an up-and-coming attacking midfielder, ranking among the top 1% of positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for goals scored, assists placed and shot-creating actions per 90, as per FBref, also ranking highly for progressive passes and carries.
The young playmaker was admirable, taking a strong stance regarding his future in January, rejecting any notion of a departure and claiming: “Liverpool is my club, Liverpool is my team.”
Having joined the club as a 16-year-old after leaving Fulham’s academy, signing for a tribunal fee of £4m, he’s already played a shedload of football under Jurgen Klopp but is now struggling for minutes in Slot’s system.
Liverpool player Harvey Elliott
That’s all well and good, but he’s a gifted young footballer with suitors beginning to get a sense that Liverpool might be keen on selling.
According to Football Insider, there are a number of Premier League clubs lining up to make their move this summer, with Newcastle United thought to be at the forefront.
Elliott, who, like Huijsen, is valued at £50m, might come to jump at the chance of playing at St. James’ Park, having failed to start just one of Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures this season.

It would be great to see the 21-year-old’s services retained for several years yet to come (or more). Elliott is already showing elite-level signs, and Slot could turn him into a world-beater with the right series of tweaks.
However, things will need to change for that to happen. In any case, the £50m-rated talent has already made 143 appearances and played his part across a trophy-laden spell in the club’s modern history.
Given that he signed for a tribunal fee of just £4m, there’s no way to look it other than through the lens of Liverpool hitting the jackpot with his signing.

1 a 0 Fortaleza.

If Sunrisers have been the second-quickest batting team in powerplays this IPL (before the CSK vs KKR game on Monday) with a run rate of 11.66, Kings have been the second-worst bowling in the death overs (17-20) this IPL, leaking runs at 12.65.Sunrisers’ fresh batting approach this IPL has largely been because of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s success at the top. While Head carried forward his stellar form from 2023, Abhishek’s firepower has surprised many. Hardly a household name in T20 cricket, he has left many big-hitters behind in recent months with his boundary-hitting. Since October 2023, Abhishek has smashed 101 boundaries (47 fours and 54 sixes) in 326 balls, which adds up to one boundary every 3.23 balls, second only to Andre Russell’s 3.12 (taking into account stats for batters with at least 50 boundaries in this period).Abhishek’s methods might be high-risk but they’ve brought high-reward: he has not been dismissed very often while going for the big hits. His 101 boundaries have come across 14 innings in which he has averaged 46 while batting in the top three. He has struck two centuries in this phase, which also includes ten knocks for champions Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he was the second-highest scorer while striking at 192. He has been smashing runs at 217.56 this IPL. If in the last two IPLs he hit a six almost every 25 balls, this IPL he is doing it five times as often, hitting a six every five balls. And he has done it against pace and spin, in the powerplay and the middle overs. With batters like Head alongside him, and Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad to follow, the Kings bowlers will have to up their game significantly. They will be hoping their international bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel fare much better in the death overs.Kings will play their next four games in Mullanpur, and will want to take full advantage of home comforts to climb up the points table.Form guidePBKS WLLW (most recent first) SRH WLWLTeam news and Impact Player strategyPunjab Kings Kings were without Liam Livingstone in their last game because of injury. He was replaced by Sikandar Raza, who couldn’t make an impact with either bat or ball against Gujarat Titans. Livingstone resumed training with the team on Monday but is still being assessed. For their impact subs, Kings have consistently subbed out Arshdeep Singh for a batter like Prabhsimran Singh, or vice versa.Likely XII: 1 Shikhar Dhawan (capt), 2 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 3 Prabhsimran Singh, 4 Sam Curran, 5 Jitesh Sharma (wk), 6 Shashank Singh, 7 Sikandar Raza, 8 Harpreet Brar, 9 Harshal Patel, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 , 12 2:28
Punjab Kings: Indian batters > overseas batters
Sunrisers Hyderabad T Natarajan returned in their last game after recovering from injury but Mayank Agarwal missed out because he was unwell. It is as yet unclear if Agarwal is fit for Tuesday, although he trained on Monday. For their Impact Player strategy, Sunrisers have kept it straightforward so far by swapping out one of the top-order batters – Head, Abhishek or Agarwal – for a frontline quick like Natarajan or Umran Malik, except in one game where they brought in allrounder Washington Sundar while batting first because they were 114 for 5.Likely XII: 1 , 2 Travis Head, 3 Aiden Markram, 4 Shahbaz Ahmed, 5 Heinrich Klaasen (wk), 6 Nitish Kumar Reddy/Washington Sundar, 7 Abdul Samad, 8 Pat Cummins (capt), 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Mayank Markande, 11 Jaydev Unadkat, 12 .In the spotlight – Pat Cummins and Arshdeep SinghPat Cummins was once a powerplay enforcer with the ball for Kolkata Knight Riders who went for quite a few runs, but a change of role in a new team has seen his numbers improve. He is now bowling a lot more in the middle overs (7-16), conceding runs at just 7.75 an over, his second-best economy rate since his maiden IPL season of 2014. If he can continue that form, it will bode very well for Sunrisers.Arshdeep Singh made his name in the IPL with his swing upfront and his nerveless death bowling. However, his death-bowling exploits have faded in the last couple of seasons. If he was economical in that phase (7.58) in IPL 2022, he failed to pick more than four wickets. And when he picked seven wickets at the death in IPL 2023, he leaked 9.50 runs an over. This IPL has been even worse – just one wicket and an economy rate of 11.70 in 20 balls. Will the real Arshdeep please stand up?2:17

Pitch and conditions – Back to MullanpurThis is going to be just the second IPL game at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur. In the first, Kings started on a winning note against Delhi Capitals by chasing down 175. The spinners didn’t leak as many runs as the quicks on that night, but it’s been more than two weeks since then and conditions could easily have changed.Stats that matter – Cummins against Kings’ top order Cummins has a dominant record against both Dhawan and Bairstow. In the 25 balls Cummins has bowled to each of the two batters, he has dismissed them twice each while conceding 16 runs to Bairstow and 31 to Dhawan. Dhawan might be better off going after Jaydev Unadkat, off whom he has scored 70 runs off 44 balls in the IPL, while being dismissed just once. Sunrisers have a dominating 14-7 record against Kings, their best win percentage (66.67%) against any team. Two Sunrisers batters have a strike rate of over 200 in 2024 (minimum 100 runs) – Klaasen (204.85) and Abhishek (217.56). From Kings, the highest strike rate is 161.53 – by Prabhsimran Singh.Quotes”We are delighted to return to our home crowd and cannot wait to meet with everyone who comes out to cheer for us at the stadium.” Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan is excited about the crowd support at Mullanpur“You’ve got to use variations in T20s, you’ve got to use everything you have, not just the slower bouncers but you’ve got to bowl wide, straight on the legs, and that’s how you have to keep the batsmen guessing. As a bowler, you’ve got to be unpredictable with your lines and pace.” The experienced Jaydev Unadkat of Sunrisers Hyderabad on what it takes to be successful, even with the new two-bouncers-per-over rule
